Remembering the Goodness of God Cuts Through All of the Negativity Around Us

Ugliness pervades our culture. We see the hatred of cultures, the destruction of our world, the sadness that affects our society day after day. Sometimes all we can think is negative. Where does positive even enter our frame of mind? The truth is yes, our society is bad. However, let us not forget the good things that God has placed before us. Let us remember the Lord is still reigns in ultimate authority. Let us not forget the beauty of God. He is beautiful. His work is beautiful. Remnants of the world before the fall remain. Remembering the goodness of the Lord cuts through all of the negativity around us.

The Beauty of God in Creation

We see the hands of the intelligent designer in the beauty of His creation. Examine the trees, the leaves during autumn, mountains, chirping birds or the beautiful skies above? How often do we look with amazement at the beauty we see when looking out an out of our airplane window when we sit at 30,000 feet in the air? Various colors and hues transparent to our eyes. Although, sin mars this world, God in his grace leaves us traces and glimpses of the eternal magnificence we will one day see in Heaven. Psalm 19, “The heavens are telling of the glory of God; and their expanse is declaring the work of His hands.” Creation attests to the glory of God. Creation testifies to the One who is deserving of all the glory honor and praise. His glory we cannot escape. “For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse (Rom. 1:20). Friends, let us admire the beauty and art of the Skillful Designer.

The Beauty of God in Conversion

One of the greatest ways we see the work of God is through the death of the old and birth of the new. The miraculous account of the new birth displays the glorious work of our Sovereign Creator. Eph 2:1-2 proclaims, “And you were dead in your trespasses and sins, in which you formerly walked, according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience.” Remember how you once lived, how you found your identity in your looked, how money, power and possessions consumed your life? But God, through His grace and mercy sent His most precious, innocent, Son to die the death that you and I deserve. It’s beautiful to imagine the Most-High thinking much of us to give of His Son. God has taken you, washed you, and cleansed you, so that you are now in right standing with Him due to the New Birth. It is beautiful in how God takes dead sinners and makes them alive in Christ. Do we really thank God for our conversion? Do we thank Him for making us alive again?
