In a league where competent quarterback play is scarce, Colin Kaepernick remains a free agent. That nobody is very surprised the former 49ers quarterback is unemployed is telling.

Kaepernick is clearly one of the best 32 quarterbacks in the world right now. He may not put up spectacular numbers, but he did manage to produce league average results with one of the NFL’s worst supporting casts around him. Kaepernick finished 17th with a passer rating of 90.7. He finished ahead of guys like Cam Newton, Eli Manning, Carson Wentz and Ryan Tannehill in QBR, and none of those guys have to worry about their job security this offseason.

That fact does not sit well with one prominent supporter of Kaepernick: Filmmaker Spike Lee, who took to Instagram to defend his friend.
