Evangelism In the Early Church
There are at least five basic characteristics of the New Testament Church revealed in Acts 1–4. Each of these principles should serve as a foundation for future generations to follow.
1. The Early Church Ministered Through Constant Presence
Even a quick reading of the first few chapters of Acts reveals that the early church did not hide or run from the community they were called to serve. They engaged the culture.
Acts 2:46–47 says: “And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.”
Unlike many contemporary believers who seem afraid of mingling with the unsaved world, the early church was out in the community on a daily basis, thus creating a constant presence for the purpose of spreading the gospel. As a result, God added to the Church “daily.”
