Robin Thicke was overcome with emotion at the funeral of his father, actor Alan Thicke on Monday.

The 39-year-old singer was surrounded by family and friends including girlfriend April Love Geary, 22.

The Blurred Lines hit-maker attended the service of his late father – who died suddenly following a heart attack last Tuesday, aged 69 – in Santa Barbara, California.

Alan – best known for his role as Jason Seaver on the ABC television series Growing Pains – died on December 13, leaving behind his wife of more than a decade Tanya Callau.

Robin appeared clearly heartbroken as he covered his face with his hands, paced about and peered up into the sky.

He donned a fitted black suit and kept concealed behind dark sunglasses.

The Grammy nominee acted as a pallbearer and was seen carrying the casket into the hearse.

He was comforted by other mourners at the packed service who came to pay their respects.

The grey and silver casket was overflowing with white flowers as it was lifted to the burial site.

His model girlfriend of almost three years donned a black low-cut dress that hit just above the knee and included full-length sheer sleeves.

She carried a black and gold leather handbag and wore strappy black heeled sandals and dark aviator shades.

Her long silky dark tresses were styled stick straight and parted down the centre for a conservative, yet dramatic look.

Several attendees showed their support including Mohamed Hadid – father to supermodel sisters Bella and Gigi Hadid – who posted a heartfelt Instagram message with a snapshot of a fountain from the cemetery.

He captioned the photo: ‘And the tears will flow Our friend simply a Gentelman #alanthicke You will be greatly missed. RIP. (sic)’

On Sunday, the father-of-one attempted to put on a brave face after paying tribute to his late father.
Leonardo DiCaprio was also present to honour the star in Carpenteria, California.

As one of DiCaprio’s first roles was alongside Thicke on Growing Pains, he took to his personal Facebook last week to share a few kind words about the veteran actor as he wrote: ‘Alan was a devoted father, husband, friend and role model.’

‘He knew how to harness the power of the entertainment industry to be a positive influence in so many lives – including mine. I will be forever grateful for the opportunity I had to work with Alan early in my career.’

‘He had tremendous class, a huge heart, and he taught me and so many others the valuable lessons about humility and gratitude. I’ve seen him a number of times over the years and when Alan Thicke walked in the room, quite frankly, no one was cooler. I miss him already – my thoughts and prayers are with the entire Thicke family during this difficult time.’

Born in Ontario, Canada, in 1947, Thicke was nominated for three Emmy Awards for his work in the late 1970s as a writer for Barry Manilow’s talk show, and later for a satirical take on the genre in the variety show America 2-Night.

He composed several popular theme songs, including the original theme for The Wheel of Fortune and other shows including The Facts of Life and Diff’rent Strokes.

In the 1990s and beyond, Thicke stayed busy as a celebrity TV host and with guest shots on dozens of series, including How I Met Your Mother and, this year, the Netflix series Fuller House and the NBC drama This Is Us.
