Alabama, Clemson Set for National Championship Rematch on January 9

Do you remember how fun and exciting last year’s College Football Playoff National Championship was to watch?

Alabama and Clemson spent 60 minutes trading hits, big plays and the lead. The fourth quarter alone featured 40 points and five touchdowns, and when the dust settled, it was Alabama claiming another national title with a 45-40 win.

Well, here’s to hoping the sequel is as good as the original, because we’re getting a rematch.

Following Alabama’s 24-7 win over Washington in the Peach Bowl, and Clemson’s 31-0 victory against Ohio State in the Fiesta Bowl, both teams will meet again in the title game in Tampa on Jan. 9. The Crimson Tide have already opened as a seven-point favorite.

Alabama: The Crimson Tide playing for a national title is nothing new. Whether it’s the BCS or the CFP, there is no acronym that Nick Saban cannot dominate, as his Alabama team will play for the national title for the fifth time in the last eight seasons. They’ve yet to lose a national title game under Saban.

In fact, losing is just something Alabama doesn’t do very often to anyone in any game. After beating Washington, the Tide have won 26 straight. Of those 26 wins, 23 have come by multiple scores.

Clemson: The Tigers will be looking for revenge against Alabama, and while there aren’t many teams in college football capable of beating the Tide, Clemson is one of the few who can. The Tigers may not have a 26-game win streak like Alabama does, but they’ve still been one of the most successful programs of the decade.

Following their win over Ohio State in the Fiesta Bowl, the Tigers are now 27-2 since the start of the 2015 season. Since the beginning of 2011 this is a team that has gone 69-15.

It also has a quarterback in Deshaun Watson that could give the Alabama defense fits — Watson had 479 total yards and touchdowns in last year’s title game — as well as a defense that can hold up to the Alabama offense.
