22 Cell Phones Stolen from NewSpring Church in Columbia, South Carolina

An event at a Columbia church turned into a police investigation after 22 cell phones were stolen Wednesday night.

According to a Columbia Police Department incident report, students of NewSpring Church on Bush River Road were brought into the auditorium of the church and instructed to place their cell phones underneath their seats during the service.

After the service, the church held a party in the auditorium with loud music and the lights off, the report said.

When the party ended, the report said, students returned to their seats and noticed many of their cell phones had gone missing.

Video surveillance at the scene was unable to be used because of low lighting conditions from the party.
