Beyoncé cannot be stopped, especially following her tremendous number at the MTV Video Music Awards Sunday night.
U.S. District Judge Jed Rakoff granted the singer’s motion to dismiss a lawsuit that had accused Bey of copying the 2014 short film Palinoia when making Lemonade. Independent filmmaker Matthew Fulks filed the suit in June, claiming that Lemonade uses nine elements from the film in her visual album, which debuted in April on HBO and Tidal.
The New York federal Judge Rakoff did not explain his reasoning behind the verdict beyond writing, according to The Hollywood Reporter, “Upon full consideration of the parties’ briefs and oral arguments, the Court grants defendants’ motion. A memorandum explaining the reasons for this ruling will issue in due course, at which time final judgment will be entered.”
