This podcast is designed to give you a basic understanding of God, the Bible, and Christian beliefs. J. Dwight Pentecost said, “There is no higher activity in which the mind may be engaged than the pursuit of the knowledge of God.”
Today’s passage of Scripture is Psalms 48:14 which reads: “For this God is our God for ever and ever: he will be our guide even unto death.”
Today’s words from a theologian are from Origen. He said: “For whatever be the knowledge which we are able to obtain of God, either by perception or reflection, we must of necessity believe that He is by many degrees far better than what we perceive Him to be.”
Our first topic for today is titled “What Does It Mean That God Is a Trinity? (Part 3)” from the book, “Understanding Theology in 15 Minutes a Day” by Dr. Daryl Aaron.
— Errors Regarding the Trinity
Some have gone wrong in their efforts to make the nature of God understandable. For example, some Christians have believed — and some people have accused all Christians of believing — in three gods; that is an error called tritheism. However, the biblical doctrine of the Trinity is that there is only one true God, not three.
Our second topic for today is titled “Theology of the Prophetic Era (Part 5)” from “The Moody Handbook of Theology” by Dr. Paul Enns.
— ANTICIPATION OF THE DAY OF THE LORD: JOEL
The prophet Joel provides further insight into the kingdom concept through His description of the future judgment of Israel, the nations, and the millennial blessings.
Joel called the people of Judah to repentance in the light of the terrible locust plague that had devastated the nation. The locust plague prefigured the Day of the Lord, a concept that involves three features: (1) it may denote any judgment of God in history; (2) it may denote an eschatological judgment; (3) it may signify the blessings of the millennial age.14 Thus the Day of the Lord is “that extended period of time beginning with God’s dealing with Israel after the rapture at the beginning of the tribulation period and extending through the second advent and the millennial age unto the creation of the new heavens and new earth after the millennium.” Joel devotes chapter 2:18 to 3:21 to describing this eschatological emphasis of the Day of the Lord, both in future judgment and blessing.
