Move Over, Beyonce…Oprah Seeks to Trademark a Huge Line of Food and Drink Products, Including Lemonade

Talk show queen Oprah Winfrey now wants to extend her reign into your kitchen.

Earlier this month, Winfrey quietly filed federal paperwork to secure trademarks over a cornucopia of foods under the name Oprah’s Kitchen.

The May 19 applications cover a supermarket’s worth of products, such as basic staples like dairy, meat, fish, processed and preserved foods, spices, juices, water, lemonade, baked goods, fresh fruit and vegetables, but also speciality items such as cut flowers, beer and energy drinks.

And, the paperwork suggests, Winfrey is considering a line of Oprah bacon, baked beans, sorbet, pickles, canned fish, fruit leather and even caviar.

Winfrey is already known for recipes in her magazine and TV shows and her annual “Favorite Things” list, but creating her own food label — a Trader O’s, if you will — follows other non-food celebrities such as Paul Newman or George Foreman who created name brand culinary empires.
