Dozens of parents say they were stuck outside their children’s graduation when it was moved indoors because of the rain.
Tri-Cities High School’s graduation was set to take place in the stadium Friday night, but the weather forced the school to move it into the gymnasium, where limited seating was available.
“This is ridiculous. This is a once in a lifetime moment, and we can’t see our kids graduate,” parent Wajeedah Price said.
It caused chaos outside the gym when parents learned there was not enough room inside for them to see their children graduate.
“It was pushing and shoving, and don’t push me, don’t push, next thing you know, swings, arms, fists,” parent Janelle Carter said.
Police used a stun gun on at least one man when a brawl broke out among the angry crowd.
Channel 2 Action News reached out to school officials to find out why this happened.
Parent Chet Boykin said he arrived at the graduation two hours early.
“I was here at 5:30 p.m., and we still couldn’t get in,” Boykin said. “They should’ve stopped it and scheduled it for another day.”
