A Hartselle man has been charged with the murder Thursday night of his parents, who were gunned down inside their home.
Andrew Kyle Hulsey, 23, is charged with capital murder in the deaths of William Jeremy Hulsey, 43, and 37-year-old Sandra Hulsey. He is being held in the Morgan County jail.
Jeremy Hulsey was a preacher at Aldridge Grove Church of Christ in Moulton. The couple was Andrew Hulsey’s adoptive parents.
Family friend Bob Liddell told AL.com that the couple, both of whom he’s known since they were young, took Andrew in when he was five or six years old. He began living in their home as a foster child before the couple, who were unable to have children of their own, adopted him.
“Jeremy and Sandra were good, godly people who sought only to help Andrew,” Liddell said. “I am heartbroken over their loss. They were such a lovely couple.”
Priceville police officers were called around 8:45 p.m. Thursday to the family’s home at 445 Church Road in Hartselle, where they found the couple dead. The investigation soon led to the victims’ son as a person of interest, as well as the weapon believed to be used in the crime.
Hulsey was booked into the jail on the murder charge early Friday morning. The motive for the shooting remains unclear.
The Morgan County Sheriff’s Office is assisting in the investigation.
