Johnny Manziel, the troubled quarterback who has been a free agent since being released by the Cleveland Browns earlier this month, has hired a big-name agent in an effort to jump-start his NFL career.

The agreement between Drew Rosenhaus and Manziel was reported by multiple sources and is listed on the NFL Players Association’s website, which keeps track of player representation.

Re-energizing Manziel’s career will be a tall order, even for Rosenhaus, though. Manziel, who spent two seasons making more headlines off the field than on it in Cleveland, could face charges as a Texas grand jury considers a domestic case against him. In addition, the NFL is investigating the 2012 Heisman Trophy winner and could suspend him for off-the-field behavior. Both, along with Manziel’s well-chronicled reputation for partying, are formidable obstacles facing Rosenhaus and Manziel.

Erik Burkhardt, Manziel’s former agent, dumped him in early February, not long after an alleged domestic incident between Manziel and his former girlfriend, Colleen Crowley. That is the case currently before a grand jury and Burkhardt expressed concern for Manziel’s well-being off the field when he parted with Manziel.
