The American Family Association is publicly commending Hobby Lobby for reminding people of the real meaning of Easter.
As it has been doing since 1997, the arts-and-crafts retail chain has placed full-page ads in newspapers for Easter and Christmas proclaiming the gospel message. The Christian retailer’s Easter ad this year depicts a crown of thorns, an iron mallet, and three metal spikes – all symbolic of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. The ad carries the scripture: “He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification.” (Romans 4:25)
Ed Vitagliano is executive vice president for the Mississippi-based American Family Association. He says AFA applauds Hobby Lobby and CEO David Green for their devotion – and is asking people to let the company know how they feel about it.
“We wanted to encourage our supporters … at American Family Association and American Family Radio to pass that along to Hobby Lobby,” he explains. “They went through a battle that went all the way to the Supreme Court in defense of religious liberty.”
