A barber and the 9-year-old boy he motivated to excel in school demonstrate how capable we all are of helping each other rise to another level.

The North Carolina fourth-grader who now gets free haircuts for life in exchange for straight A’s, made an adorable appearance on “The Real.”

Kamarian Fox, with his barber Mike Shelton by his side, said he “looks up to” the man who pushed him to be great.

The academic challenge was born out of Kamarian’s nervousness about the school year. “It was just a new grade and a new school, and a new teacher,” he told the ladies of “The Real,” explaining his jitters.

To help the uneasy student rise to the challenge, in August, Mike, owner of Next Level Barbershop in Gastonia, N.C., said if he got all A’s and proved it with a report card, he’d stayed trimmed up forever on the house.

Kamarian brought back all A’s on his first report card.

The inspiring story has made national headlines and given both Kamarian and Mike a platform to show how we each have the power to motivate others.

“I just feel like we all have a gift and a calling on our lives to inspire other people, so when I’m cutting hair, cutting hair is what I do for a living, but I feel like my calling in life is to inspire other people,” said Mike.
