Amazing Grace may be 236 years old but the song has taken on new life in the last few weeks.

First, Barack Obama broke out into the song at the funeral for Rev. Clementa Pinckney:

Now, former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is putting her own spin on John Newton’s timeless Christian hymn. The classically trained pianist is marking July 4th by performing the song with violinist Jenny Oates Baker.

Their performance is layered with scenes of American troops on the battlefield and being laid to rest. (Proceeds from the iTunes single will benefit the Wounded Warrior Project.)

Politics aside, you have to admit, both Obama and Rice did right by the song.
