If Empire‘s Cookie Lyon could write about her life, what would she say? Maybe we’ll find out now that Taraji P. Henson is working on her memoirs.
The 37 INK/Atria Publishing Group announced Thursday it will publish the as-yet-untitled memoirs by the Oscar-nominated Henson, whose role as the scenery-chewing, finger-wagging Cookie has made her a breakout star of the hit Fox series.
Henson, as befitting a breakout star, is set to host Saturday Night Live this weekend.
Acclaim for her and for Empire has poured in from all quarters, including from Mick Jagger, who says he’s a fan of the musical drama series.
A book deal is the natural next step. Her memoirs are expected in mid-2016.
“As promised!” she exulted on Instagram.
37 Ink is an imprint of Atria Publishing Group and Simon & Schuster.
The publishers say the book will be about Henson’s life growing up in a rough-and-tumble neighborhood of Washington, D.C., her close family, the challenges she has faced raising a son as a single mom and her ascent from aspiring star to actual star.
