OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network has ordered additional episodes of Deion’s Family Playbook, Flex & Shanice and Welcome To Sweetie Pie’s for its 2015 primetime lineup. At its upfront today, OWN also announced it has ordered two new series, a spinoff of Iyanla: Fix My Life featuring Jay Williams; and Evelyn (working title), a docuseries starring Basketball Wives’ Evelyn Lozada. Oprah’s Master Class also returns for a fifth season in the fall, with Ellen DeGeneres, Robert Duvall, Dwayne Johnson and Smokey Robinson among the scheduled guests.
Deion’s Family Playbook premieres at 9 PM May 9. The series, starring legendary athlete Deion Sanders and his girlfriend, businesswoman Tracey Edmonds, was the highest-rated freshman docuseries in the network’s history, according to OWN. Flex & Shanice (returning in July) features the husband-and-wife duo of actor Flex Alexander and pop singer Shanice, and Welcome to Sweetie Pie’s, which airs Saturdays at 9 PM and is currently in its third season, follows Miss Robbie and her son Tim, who run a chain of successful soul food restaurants. The current season of Welcome to Sweetie Pie’s is Saturday night’s No. 1 original cable series for African-American women and total viewers, according to OWN.
The untitled Jay Williams Project is a spinoff of the high-rated and controversial Iyanla: Fix My Life, featuring Atlanta resident Jay Williams, who says he fathered 34 children with 17 different women. The spinoff follows Jay as he works to put his life and relationships in order. It’s slated to premiere in September 2015. The series is co-produced by OWN and Evolution Media.
Evelyn (working title) follows the lives of Basketball Wives alum Lozada, and her 21-year-old daughter Shaniece. Evelyn is engaged to big league baseball player Carl Crawford. and the couple just welcomed their first child, Carl Leo Jr., to the family last March. It’s scheduled to premiere in July. The series is produced by Shed Media with Pam Healey, John Hesling, Lisa Shannon, Russ Heldt and Evelyn Lozada as executive producers.
