Star Wars creator George Lucas has been named as Hollywood’s richest mogul in a survey published by Wealth-X, a Singapore-based organisation which describes itself as “the world’s leading ultra-high net worth (UHNW) intelligence and prospecting firm”.
Wealth-X say Lucas has a personal net worth of $5.4 billion, the majority of which would appear to derive from the $4 billion sale of his production company, Lucasfilm, to Disney in 2012. Lucas has also benefited from producing six (and directing four) Star Wars films, and controlling the ancillary merchandising and spin-off materials.
Just behind Lucas is the veteran Israeli producer Arnon Milchan, responsible for Once Upon a Time in America and Pretty Woman, and whose New Regency Productions is a profilic independent outfit within Hollywood, counting LA Confidential, Mr and Mrs Smith and Fantastic Mr Fox among its credits. Next is Steven Spielberg, who aside from his celebrated directorial career has credits on a string of films through his Dreamworks studio, including the blockbuster Transformers films.
