A New Jersey man accused of killing his wife, who vanished on New Year’s Eve, showed no emotion during a court appearance via video Tuesday even as authorities continue to search for the body of the mother of two.
Prosecutors said Kyle Crosby, who is accused of killing his wife, Erica, is a drug addict and a flight risk, noting he took off for Baltimore last week as police closed in. A Burlington County judge set bail at $1.2 million.
Authorities have not found Erica Crosby’s remains and would not say how they have established that the 26-year-old is dead. The investigation began last Wednesday, after a 7-year-old daughter Erica Crosby had from a prior relationship did not return to school after Christmas break. The couple also was raising their 3-month-old daughter.
When police went to their Mount Laurel home, Kyle Crosby said he had not seen his wife since they went together on New Year’s Eve to a Cherry Hill bar.
The next day, according to Deputy First Assistant Prosecutor Jim Ronca, Kyle Crosby fled. In Tuesday’s procedure, Ronca said Crosby went as far south as Baltimore, and also spent time in Delaware before being pulled over in a traffic stop near their home on Monday. Authorities say Crosby ran from the car but was nabbed shortly afterward.
On Saturday, before his capture, Crosby was charged with endangering the welfare of children, based on the lack of “care he provided to the children in the absence of his wife,” authorities said.
