Let’s take a quick look at today’s prophecy-related headlines which point towards the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ and the end of the world as we know it.
First, today, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMORS OF WARS — According to Al Jazeera, with plunging oil prices, economic sanctions, and a weakening ruble, the Russian government already has a lot to worry about. Now ISIS has joined that list of concerns. The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria has released videos threatening to liberate Chechnya and the broader North Caucasus region, and Russia is waging an online war against the group. A report by the Soufan Group, a think-tank focusing on security issues, estimates that there are up to 2,500 Chechens and other north Caucasians fighting with ISIS and other extremist groups in Syria and Iraq, and many of them may bring the war back home.
Second, today, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMORS OF WARS — According to the Associated Press, Poland’s defense minister praised long-range missiles the country is buying from the U.S. as the most modern military equipment Poland has ever had and said that they are especially needed at this time of tension in the region. A NATO member, Poland for years has worked to modernize a military once based on Soviet-built equipment. Those efforts intensified after Russia annexed Crimea earlier this year and gave support to the pro-Russian rebels in eastern Ukraine, actions that have made Warsaw nervous.
Third, today, under the Sign category of DISTRESS AMONG NATIONS — According to the Associated Press, facing a stumbling economy at home and increasingly biting Western sanctions, Russian President Vladimir Putin sought on Thursday to strengthen once-close relationship with India through an ambitious plan to help New Delhi build at least 12 new nuclear reactors. Putin and the Indian Prime Minister ended a day of talks by announcing a clutch of agreements in energy and defense, including a plan to manufacture advanced Russian military helicopters in India, and the possibility of exporting them to other countries. The agreements were announced jointly but clearly benefited India — and reflected Russia’s need for allies in the face of Western sanctions over Moscow’s annexation of Crimea and the conflict in eastern Ukraine.
Fourth, today, under the Sign category of THE TURMOIL IN ISRAEL & THE MIDDLE EAST — According to Reuters, Israel’s Intelligence Ministry Director-General said Jerusalem will not press Washington to tighten sanctions on Iran while nuclear negotiations continue for the next six months, but will push for tough action if the talks’ June deadline is not met. Yuval Wollman’s remarks suggested a cautious confidence that Washington will stick to demands that Iran curb its atomic work, although any deal is unlikely to meet Israel’s original call that Tehran’s nuclear program be dismantled. If a deal is not struck by June 30, the latest deadline, Israel wants world powers to cancel limited sanctions relief granted Iran under a 2013 interim deal.
Fifth, today, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMORS OF WARS — According to the International Business Times, the Australian government has revived the $8.5 billion Air Warfare Destroyer Programme to enhance the wartime capabilities of the Royal Australian Navy. The government had also announced a three-point plan that will create a sustainable naval shipbuilding industry that supports shipbuilding jobs. A looming conflict, sometimes referred to as one that could lead to World War III, has been widely reported since the annexation of Crimea by Russia. Australia’s new military objectives are its way of showing that it is willing to invest for a safer nation and a more war-ready fighting force.

The prophetic passage of Scripture we are looking at today is Exodus 6:1 which reads: “Then the Lord said unto Moses, Now shalt thou see what I will do to Pharaoh: for with a strong hand shall he let them go, and with a strong hand shall he drive them out of his land.”
Allow me to share with you some commentary on this passage from the Popular Bible Prophecy Commentary, edited by Tim LaHaye and Ed Hindson.
Because the Hebrews’ situation had deteriorated so rapidly since Moses’ arrival on the scene, Moses questions God as to his call and purpose as their deliverer, reminding the Lord that contrary to his expectation, the people had not yet been delivered from bondage in any way.
The Lord replies to Moses with immediate reassurance. Moses will now see what God will do. Because Pharaoh rejected the Lord’s initial request, the Lord will now make the king an offer he cannot refuse. This would result in Pharaoh not just passively letting the Hebrews go, but forcefully driving them out. Moses is reminded of the Lord’s identity as the covenant God and of His powerful, timeless commitment to the Israelites. The Lord will neither forget His promises nor ignore His covenantal obligations.
The patriarchs, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, knew the Lord as the architect of the Abrahamic Covenant and guarantor of its promises. However, they had not lived long enough to witness the fulfillment of those promises, as Moses’ generation soon would. God was about to reveal much more of Himself and His power to the patriarchs’ descendants than they themselves had ever experienced. Moses was reassured of God’s compassion toward His people and once again reminded that God had not abandoned His covenantal promise to bring the Hebrews back into Canaan.
If the Lord tarries His coming and we live, we will continue looking at the prophetic passages of the Bible in our next broadcast / podcast.
Our second coming quote for today is from R.A. Torrey. He said, “The imminent return of our Lord is the great Bible argument for a pure, unselfish, devoted, unworldly, active life of service.”
If you are not ready for the return of Jesus Christ, may I encourage you to get ready today by receiving Him as your Savior. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will. Romans 10:13 says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
Keep looking up for your redemption draweth nigh. Let us join in the prayer of John the Revelator — “Even so, come, Lord Jesus.” God bless you.
