Embrace who you are. Be yourself. Love the skin you’re in and don’t be afraid to reveal who you are to the world, just the way you are. We hear this all the time, but are we empowered enough to act on it?
Tamera Mowry-Housley, 36-year-old Christian co-host of syndicated talk show The Real, found the courage to rock her natural locks on television for the first time.
‘Growing up on TV, you guys saw my natural hair, right? I have naturally curly hair, but throughout the years, I always straightened it, I blew-dry it,” she explained.
“I put a hot comb to it and I went through this really, really rough stage, rough patch of my hair, that I had to do the big chop.”
After cutting off the damaged portion of her mane, the wife and mom has grown a healthy head of ringlets.
“I was a little nervous, ‘cause not a lot of people are used to seeing me like this. This is me. This is who I am truly,” said Mowry-Housley to co-hosts Tamar Braxton, Loni Love, Jeannie Mai and Adrienne Bailon, drawing audience applause.
