It never hurts for a president to associate himself with “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

President Obama went straight to the source Friday, visiting the Baltimore fort where in 1814 Francis Scott Key wrote the poem that became the lyrics for the national anthem.

The flag continued to fly as the British bombarded Fort McHenry during the War of 1812.

Obama’s visit marked the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Baltimore.

The president stopped at Fort McHenry en route to a Democratic fundraiser in Baltimore.
