Jamaican-Born Christian Rapper Dunamis Empowers People Through His Music

My Everything

Gospel-rapper, Dunamis, strives to empower people from a place of no judgment.

Through music, Dunamis was able to overcome his past. Born in Jamaica, he moved to New York City with his mother when he was a teenager, but he didn’t fit in. After being bullied for his Jamaican accent, he fought back to gain respect. Now, he wants to help others turn away from negative energy.

After getting shot in New York City for being in the wrong place, at the wrong time, Dunamis knew he needed to return to Jamaica. Once there, he was able to put his emotions down on paper in the form of songs.

“When you look around and you can’t find your friends and you can’t find people to lean on… you have God,” said Dunamis.

His experiences have inspired him to write songs about God and encouragement. He says his music is “not only for Christians.” “It’s the kind of sound that anyone can listen to, relate to and enjoy,” said Dunamis.

His songs mix Jamaican sounds with urban influences, hip-hop and dubstep. His new single, “My Everything,” is about where he has been and how God has helped him get through the hardships. “My Everything” will also appear on the upcoming album, “Silently Loud,” which is expected to be released in 2015.
