Republican Senator Rand Paul Meets with Coalition of African American Pastors

Senator Rand Paul met with the Coalition of African American Pastors in Memphis, Tenn.
Paul is trying to build support for a 2016 presidential run and said he’s willing to work to get the African-American vote.

“But I want to take issues that I believe in strongly, that I think will resonate strongly in the African-American community and say, ‘I want your vote. And I want to compete for that vote.’ And I think it’s good for both sides. Not only for the Republican Party, I think it’s good for the African-American community to say to both parties, you have to come get my vote, we’re not a guaranteed vote for the Democrats anymore,” Paul said.

Paul said one of the topics of Friday’s discussion was the war on drugs in the African-American community.

Paul was the keynote speaker at the Republican National Committee’s spring meeting.
