Kim Elba, former wife of heartthrob Idris Elba has found a new love and a new life, going in a whole new direction. Glowing as she comes across her first year wedding anniversary to the esteemed Pastor Andrew L. Friar, II, Kim Elba is happy.
Balancing the numerous tasks of motherhood, businesswoman and soon-to-be first lady is a constant juggle and labor of love, indeed. As her first anniversary nears. she sits back and takes survey of life as she knows it and life as she knew it and there is one thing that comes across her lips, “grateful.”
Married by Reverend Dr. James Wade, the two were joined in holy matrimony with family and friends in attendance at the beautiful beach front backdrop of Treasure Island. The two then celebrated their nuptials with their loved ones on a beautiful yacht cruise, with five-course meal and dancing included; truly a memorable, romantic event that won’t be soon forgotten. And while Kim beams with light while remembering this day, she pours out a few thoughts on her journey.
Kim’s life experiences over the course of the past decade or so have been long, but eventful. As she watches the pages of what many think was her life play out on numerous internet sites and on the pages of magazines she warmly smiles and begins to share. Being married to former husband, matinee idol Idris Elba was intricate to her evolution as a woman and a mother and she definitely doesn’t discount it’s a position many women would have gladly taken in her place.
“I couldn’t have seen it coming,” she says. “I knew he would be a great actor. He showed amazing promise when we were young and there was no doubt in my mind that he would surpass many, but how his public reacts to him, I never even considered. It had no place in my thought process and tickles me now.”
Though tight lipped about the details surrounding their marriage, something she prides herself on as a quiet commitment she has made to herself and her daughter, she ends her brief trip down memory lane with this thought:
“It was a priceless experience that bought me my most precious gift, my daughter Isan. I knew that what Idris wanted to achieve would take major sacrifices, so I held on for the ride. But I must say, I am very happy with how things have turned out for us all.”
And happy is truly what Kim is. Basking in the spirit of celebration on her first wedding anniversary, Kim is bubbling.
“For the woman I am now, I am so blessed to share my life with Andrew. Not only is he a man of God, but his patience, understanding and confidence in what we have never ceases to amaze me. God couldn’t have given me more,” Kim says smiling. And more is the critical word here, as it determines…perspective.
It seems that life brings clarity to a woman’s life when she begins to know in her heart what “more” is. The brilliance and strength of Florida native Andrew Friar which Kim found most appealing was only a tip of the iceberg for her.
“Andrew’s vision for himself and his ministry really spoke to my spirit. I have always been a woman of conviction and finding a man who shared that outlook was something I had yet to imagine.”
