Go to church, win a gun. At least that was the message at the Grace Baptist Church in Troy, NY.
At Sunday’s service, they were doing give-aways, and Ron Stafford of Schenectady won an AR-15.
We asked Pastor John Koletas if the church is an appropriate place to be doing give-aways, here was his response: “I think it’s the best place. It teaches people to defend themselves to arm themselves and to teach biblical principals,” he says.
He says this won’t be the last sporting rifle to be given out. They plan to make this an annual event, even though the move has raised some eyebrows.
On a normal Sunday, Pastor John Koletas says they see between 80 and 100 people in the congregation, but at Sunday’s service, many more were in attendance. He says it’s all to defend second amendment rights, and the winner, had some harsh words for the media.
“This is our way of life up here in upstate New York. The media I believe has demonized people with guns,” says Ron Stafford.
Despite the controversy this giveaway is completely legal. The AR-15 has been modified to be SAFE Act compliant and whoever wins must first complete a background check.
