“I’m heartbroken, and I’m sad because I don’t have him with me no more,” said Masharah Tingling. “That was my last time seeing him, and I had to see him like that.”

Masharah, 15, tells CBS 2′s Suzanne Le Mignot about the altercation that cost her father, Michael Tingling, his life.

Mr. Tingling had picked his daughter up from Chicago Math and Science Academy and was taking her to get a donut. Neither of them would have ever suspected that this would be the last father-daughter time they would spend together.

A boxer in his native Belize, it may seem ironic that Michael Tingling, 59, was killed by a punch in the chest. But he wore a pacemaker, and the punch was said to cause too much stress on his heart.

After he and Masharah left the donut shop, Joseph Firek, a man who has a history of psychiatric illness, brushed up against his daughter as they walked down the street.

“My dad put me behind him and told the man to go away,” Masharah said.
