Portland Timbers goalkeeper will join Major League Soccer's D.C. United franchise for the remainder of the 2009 season.

The clubs announced a loan agreement Friday.

Cronin played 28 matches for the Timbers this season, posting 10 shutouts. Following the season, he was named the league's goalkeeper of the year.

Cronin played five seasons in Major League Soccer before joining the Timbers this season.
