A professional soccer player has pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter in connection with a fatal crash in southern New Jersey.
Matthew Maher of Cape May also pleaded guilty Wednesday to drunken driving in the March 7 accident on the Atlantic City Expressway in Hamilton Township. He faces up to 10 years in prison when he's sentenced in January.
Maher's sport-utility vehicle crashed into the rear of a minivan driven by 55-year-old Hort Kap of Philadelphia. Kap was partially ejected from his vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 25-year-old Maher played in five games for the Philadelphia Kixx of the National Indoor Soccer League last season, according to the team's website. It currently lists him as inactive.
