The Colorado Avalanche confirm that backup goalie Peter Budaj has the swine flu.
Budaj didn't accompany the Avalanche on their four-game road trip that began Tuesday in Edmonton. There's a chance the Slovak could rejoin the team later in the trip if he's cleared by team doctors.
The team said no other players have come down with the virus.
Budaj was scheduled to start his first game of the season last Friday against Carolina, but was scratched due to flu-like symptoms.
Meanwhile, the Edmonton Oilers have confirmed that defenseman Ladislav Smid has the swine flu.
The Oilers made the announcement Tuesday night following their 3-0 loss to the Avalanche. Smid played 19 minutes, 47 seconds in the game.
The Oilers believe he is the only player on the team to have caught the virus. The 23-year-old Czech native has four assists in 12 games this season.
