Hundreds of women gathered in Center City on Saturday for a day-long seminar on heart and health issues in the African American and Latina communities.
The local chapter of the American Heart Association along Congresso de Latino Unidos is hosting the Silent No More conference in Center City. Heart disease is the number one killer of women of color who are disproportionately affected by heart disease and stroke.
This conference was created to energize African American and Latina women to eat better, and to recognize and acknowledge the warning signs of heart disease and stroke and, according to Christina Crews, director of Communications for the heart Association, to move a little more:
"Physical inactivity is highest among African American and Latina women and, even in general, in Pennsylvania, 56% of women are overweight or obese and that's a risk factor for heart disease."
