Pastor Tells Church Members to 'Take What You Need as the Offering Plate is Passed'

toby-slough.jpgA Texas pastor has discovered a unique way to help others in the sour economy.

Toby Slough is pastor of Cross Timbers Community Church, in Argyle, Texas. Earlier this year, as the offering plate was circulated, Pastor Slough told the congregation to take money if they were suffering financially.

That day, the church reported its largest offering ever. Since then, the non-denominational church has given out half a million dollars to members and non-members. Slough says the concept was tough at first, especially for those who needed the money. But now, he notes, the congregation has responded beyond all expectations.

"As this generosity concept began to gather momentum in our church, we were able to bless single moms and people who are unemployed by paying their utility bills," he points out. "And some of the things we were able to do, I'm really excited to watch people in need beginning to feel released to receive because I know as they get blessed, they're going to become givers."

Slough made his comments on the Fox News Channel.
