President-elect Barack Obama has requested that the words "so help me God" be added to the end of the oath of office to be administered by Chief Justice John Roberts on Inauguration Day.
That confirmation came in an affidavit filed today by Roberts' court counselor in a pending lawsuit by an atheist opposed to any mention of God in the inaugural ceremonies. Roberts said he would abide by Obama's wishes.
The Constitution has specific language on what has to be said when swearing in the president, but the "so help me God" phrase has traditionally been added at the end of the required oath, starting with George Washington in 1789.

If Take Away God's Name Then Everything else Follow leaving this Great Nation and Children Will Suffer, because We refuse keep his name before all things which are made by him.
This nation was founded by the Bible principles. God has kept his hands on America in the past because it's past president prayed and honored God!!
I feel these are the most powerful words that anyone can use. For it was God who created us, and it is God who determines our destination. We know we can not make it without Him.
Actually, fewer presidents have added "so help me God" to their their oaths than those who have left it out.
Also, the lawsuit was not filed by "an atheist," but by several atheist groups and individuals. Further, it did not state that there could be no reference to God, but that the chief justice couldn't add that unless the president-elect requested it, which he did.
I'm all for Obama having the right to add "so help me God" after his oath if he so chooses, but let's be accurate about the facts.
