Thur, July 20, 2017: Trump meets with Pentagon officials on ISIS, Afghanistan

The battle being waged against Islamic State is going “very well” and the terrorist group is “falling fast,” President Donald Trump said Thursday.

The top-level national security meeting lasted about two hours and is believed to have covered everything from the ongoing war in Afghanistan to the battle against ISIS, or the Islamic State in Syria and Iraq.

One of the topics believed to have been discussed is whether to send thousands of new U.S. troops to fight in Afghanistan.

When asked by reporters about whether more troops would be deployed, Trump responded, “We’ll see,” according to¬†NBC News. He also was upbeat on the fight against ISIS: “We’re doing very well against ISIS. ISIS is falling fast. May 20-21, 2017: Trump in Saudi Arabia: Meets with King Salman, speaks on Islam, helps open cultural center

The president will meet with King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud for coffee and participate in a signing ceremony expected to focus on arms sales.

After a meeting with leaders of more than a dozen Muslim-majority countries, he will deliver a speech about Islam that the White House is hoping will diffuse tensions resulting from his travel ban while also cementing the U.S.-Saudi relationship as a bulwark against both ISIS and Iran’s nuclear ambitions.

Trump will also participate in the grand opening of a cultural center dedicated to fighting Islamic radicalism and promoting a more moderate approach to practicing the religion.

Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi has said he received assurances during talks with President Donald Trump and his administration of increasing American support as he presses his country’s campaign against ISIL.

“We have been given assurances that the [US] support will not only continue but will accelerate for Iraq to accomplish the task,” Abadi said following talks with Trump at the White House on Monday.
