The River Church Opens Its Doors as a Shelter After Storms and Tornadoes Displace Residents in Alto, Texas

Severe weather hammered Texas Saturday, leading to at least two deaths.

An alto church has opened its doors to people affected by the storms.

It’s called The River.

The house of worship now being used as shelter and a place for victims to get medical treatment.

School buses rolling into The River Church.

Full of people who no longer have a place to live after possible tornadoes ripped through alto.

Pastor Ron Rose was inside when the first storm hit. He was, “We had a baby shower going on and our Spanish church had an event going on too. Then, the second storm came and we just got everyone out and over to our school.”

The church spared and now being used as a staging area for first responders, volunteers and people who rode out the storms.

Pastor Rose says, “The Lord blessed us with a generator after the hurricanes so we are probably the only place in town that has power.”

Pastor Rose and his staff loaded up their church van with people who needed help.
