A 22-year-old Fordham University student is in “extremely critical condition” after falling 40 feet from the school’s iconic bell tower, The New York Daily News reports Sunday. Sydney Monfries, who’s set to graduate in about a month from the Bronx school, was climbing to the top of the tower with friends at about 3 a.m. to photograph the city’s skyline when she tripped and fell through a gap in the stairs, police said. The Portland, Oregon-born student was rushed to the hospital for head trauma. Police said Fordham is investigating to determine how the students accessed the tower.
