Tucker Carlson made sexist and demeaning comments about the 2007 Miss Teen USA contestant from South Carolina in a newly unearthed recording, joking about sexual activity with the then 17-year-old girl and the girl’s intelligence.
The recordings, released by the media watchdog group Media Matters on Tuesday, are from a 2007 interview on the “Bubba the Love Sponge Show,” a popular radio show. On it, Carlson repeatedly made lewd references to the contestant, Caitlin Upton, calling the teenager “appealing” and stating that she would “probably be a pretty good wife.”
Carlson and the other hosts of the show, went on to speculate whether the pageant’s host, Mario Lopez, who was in his ’30s at the time, inappropriately flirted with or had sexual relations with Upton.
“He gets a pass. The normal laws for that kind of thing don’t apply to him,” Carlson said.
This is the third batch of Carlson’s former comments released by Media Matters this week. On Sunday, the organization published audio of the Fox News host discussing sexual assault of children and other degrading comments toward women. On Monday, Media Matters released more recordings of Carlson making homophobic and racist comments.
