A brawl left a man severely injured early Sunday in the Cincinnati Avenue Entertainment District, El Paso police said.

The injured man was found on the ground outside the Profe Cantina bar after a fight at about 1 a.m. involving several people, said police spokesman Sgt. Enrique Carrillo.

“It was a big brawl,” said Carrillo, adding that the man’s injuries, including head injuries, were believed to be life threatening.

There had been no arrests as an investigation by detectives with the Crimes Against Persons Unit continued late Sunday morning. The injured man’s name was not immediately released

Red crime-scene tape sealed off the parking lot in front of the Profe Cantina. North Mesa Street, between Cincinnati Avenue and Glory Road/Baltimore Drive, remained closed Sunday morning as an investigation continue.

Crime scene investigators could be seen taking measurements at the site.

Fistfights spilling into the street, traffic and public intoxication have been a repeated safety concern in the Cincinnati area, a popular nightspot with bars and restaurants near the University of Texas at El Paso.

Customers, residents and business owners have asked for increased police presence and added pedestrian safety measures.
