A bestselling American author cancelled her talk at the prestigious Frankfurt book fair in Germany because she was left feeling unsafe after being harassed and verbally abused by a group of men at her hotel bar there.

Anna Todd, whose fan fiction on the Wattpad website turned into a bestselling book series, had been set to speak at the annual book lovers’ extravaganza on Saturday.

But the 29-year-old cancelled her talk – set to be one of the biggest of the fair – after an incident at a bar at the Marriott hotel on Friday night left her feeling unsafe.

In a series of tweets, Todd said the unidentified men ‘harassed us for hours’ and ‘called us sad, stupid women who they don’t want to f***!’

She also posted a video showing part of the incident, which she said she was made to delete by police.

She later posted another clip that didn’t identify the men, only showing their legs and feet, adding it was ‘funny’ that the men who harassed her were more protected than she was.

Todd told the German-language publication Bild that she and a group of women literary agents, managers and others had met in the bar of the Marriott hotel when the group of men came in and approached them.
