Due to the enormous and important historical significance of Aretha Franklin’s life and what it means to black Americans and all Americans, former President Obama should have been there. Obama referred to her sweeping historical significance in his note of condolences to the family and fans of Aretha Franklin. Here is the complete statement.
Notice these words: “In her voice, we could feel our history, all of it and in every shade – our power and our pain, our darkness and our light, our quest for redemption and our hard-won respect.”
Because of that alone, this former black president should been at Aretha Franklin’s funeral for without Aretha standing with Martin there would have never been a Barack.
