TEXT: Matthew 24:36-44
36 But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.
37 But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark,
39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
40 Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
41 Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left..
42 Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.
43 But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up.
44 Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.

Keeping the House Till the Lord Comes, Part 2
John MacArthur said, “The only way to avoid spiritual loss is to be ready at all times for Christ’s return.”
Using the metaphor of a thief breaking into a house, Jesus describes His Second Coming as shocking, startling, and stunning because many will not be prepared. However, Jesus does not want us to resign ourselves to unpreparedness. He wants us to be ready. He wants us to be like the “goodman” in his parable who, if he had known the thief was coming, “would have watched, and would not have allowed his house to be broken into.”
Jesus wants us to keep the house until His return. He wants us to keep guard, or keep watch, over all that has been entrusted to us spiritually speaking. On last week, we highlighted three “houses” that the Lord wants us to stand guard over — the house of our own bodies, the house of our families, and the Lord’s house, the Church.
How are we to keep the house of our bodies till the Lord comes? First Corinthians 6:19 says, “What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?” Not only are our bodies the temple of the Holy Spirit, but we often speak of Jesus living inside of us as well. Just as you would not want to offend a guest whom you have invited into your home, you ought not to want to offend the One who has been invited to reside in the house of your body.
We offend and grieve Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit when we engage in physical sin — using the body that God has given us, the body in which He resides, to steal, cheat, lie, commit adultery, commit homosexuality engage in fornication. Our bodies don’t belong to us; they belong to God. And to misuse them is an affront to Him. However, Jesus is equally (or even more so) concerned about our thought life and where our hearts, minds, and spirits continually reside. We keep watch over the house of our hearts and minds by submitting our thought life to Jesus Christ. Second Corinthians 10:5 says, we ought to “cast down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bring into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.” This is something that we must choose to do. We must choose to meditate on the Word of God, positive deeds, and the Second Coming of Christ.
When we keep watch over our bodies, our minds, and our hearts that we might not sin against the Lord, we remain ready for the Second Coming of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Charles Tillman wrote:
Ready to speak, ready to warn,
Ready over souls to yearn,
Ready in life, ready in death,
Ready for His return.
Ready to go, ready to stay,
Ready my place to fill,
Ready for service, lowly or great,
Ready to do His will.
Now, if you are not a believer in Jesus Christ, I urge you to trust in Him because He is coming again and you do not want to be left behind. Here is how you can place your faith and trust in Him for Salvation from sin and the consequences of sin.
First, accept the fact that you are a sinner, and that you have broken God’s law. The Bible says in Romans 3:23: “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”
Second, accept the fact that there is a penalty for sin. The Bible states in Romans 6:23: “For the wages of sin is death…”
Third, accept the fact that you are on the road to hell. Jesus Christ said in Matthew 10:28: “And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” Also, the Bible states in Revelation 21:8: “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”
Now that is bad news, but here’s the good news. Jesus Christ said in John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will.
Romans 10:9 & 13 says, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved… For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
If you believe that Jesus Christ died on the Cross for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead, and you want to trust Him for your Salvation today, please pray with me this simple prayer: Holy Father God, I realize that I am a sinner and that I have done some bad things in my life. I am sorry for my sins, and today I choose to turn from my sins. For Jesus Christ sake, please forgive me of my sins. I believe with all of my heart that Jesus Christ died for me, was buried, and rose again. I trust Jesus Christ as my Savior and I choose to follow Him as Lord from this day forward. Lord Jesus, please come into my heart and save my soul and change my life today. Amen.
If you just trusted Jesus Christ as your Saviour, and you prayed that prayer and meant it from your heart, I declare to you that based upon the Word of God, you are now saved from Hell and you are on your way to Heaven. Welcome to the family of God! Congratulations on doing the most important thing in life and that is receiving Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour.
