Fox News Host Laura Ingraham Tells LeBron James and Kevin Durant to “Shut Up and Dribble” and Stay Out of Politics

Fox News host Laura Ingraham criticized LeBron James and Kevin Durant on Thursday for their recent comments about President Trump, suggesting the NBA stars should “shut up and dribble” and stay out of politics.

James and Durant discussed political division in the United States in a video published Thursday for UNINTERRUPTED — a multimedia platform co-founded by the Cleveland Cavaliers forward. “The climate is hot,” James said. “The No. 1 job in America, the appointed person (Trump), is someone who doesn’t understand the people — and really don’t give a (expletive) about the people.”

Durant echoed those sentiments, saying, “the country is not run by a great coach.”

Ingraham responded to the backlash in a statement from Fox News sent to USA TODAY Sports and other outlets.

“If pro athletes and entertainers want to freelance as political pundits, then they should not be surprised when they’re called out for insulting politicians,” Ingraham said. “There was no racial intent in my remarks – false, defamatory charges of racism are a transparent attempt to immunize entertainment and sports elites from scrutiny and criticism.”

Ingraham, on her Fox News show, The Ingraham Angle, said the athletes were not elected to political office, so they should keep the political commentary to themselves.

“Must they run their mouths like that?” Ingraham said. “Unfortunately, a lot of kids — and some adults — take these ignorant comments seriously.

“Oh, and LeBron and Kevin: You’re great players, but no one voted for you. Millions elected Trump to be their coach. So keep the political commentary to yourself or, as someone once said, shut up and dribble.”
