TEXT: Psalm 78:26-31
26 He caused an east wind to blow in the heaven: and by his power he brought in the south wind.
27 He rained flesh also upon them as dust, and feathered fowls like as the sand of the sea:
28 And he let it fall in the midst of their camp, round about their habitations.
29 So they did eat, and were well filled: for he gave them their own desire;
30 They were not estranged from their lust. But while their meat was yet in their mouths,
31 The wrath of God came upon them, and slew the fattest of them, and smote down the chosen men of Israel.
This is an uncomfortable subject for many of us, but if you listen and take heed, this particular series can not only change your life spiritually, but it can save your life physically.
This passage in Psalms is a recounting of the story told in Numbers showing the lust of the children of Israel for meat and their discontent with the food God had provided. God, angered by their gluttony, gave them what they desired, they proceeded to gorge themselves on it, and the Lord sent a plague that killed many as judgment. This passage describes the plague as “the wrath of God” that resulted in the deaths of “the fattest of them.”
According to research published in the American Journal of Public Health, 33% of Americans are overweight, 35% are obese, and 18% of all deaths in the U.S. are attributed to obesity. Some argue that the death rate due to obesity is actually higher because of all of the diseases that obese individuals are more vulnerable to. Might we be suffering from plagues that kill the “fattest” of us due to our gluttony?
The Bible says “the wages of sin is death,” and that includes the sin of gluttony. This passage is a reminder that God is serious about all kinds of sin, even the ones that we deem acceptable. While many associate food and eating with good times, gluttony — eating in excess — does bad things to our bodies and can lead to an untimely death.

– Andy Morgan’s site that also covers the Leangains model of intermittent fasting, RippedBody.jp. I particularly like his method of counting macros instead of counting calories. (That said, I don’t count anything. I just eat.)

PRACTICAL ADVICE ON EATING RIGHT: In “The RAVE Diet and Lifestyle,” Mike Anderson continues sharing why he recommends not using any vegetable oils. He writes, “Some highly questionable studies claim to show a ‘slower progression’ of heart disease when people consume olive oil. But having a slower progression of heart disease hardly makes the case that olive oil is heart-healthy, assuming such a causal relationship exists in the first place. Other studies have shown it is not the olive oil at all, but the high fiber content in a traditional Mediterranean-type diet that accounts for lower rates of heart disease. A diet is not heart-healthy unless it arrests and reverses heart disease and only a whole, plant-based diet – which specifically excludes all oils – has been proven to do that. Adding oils to such a diet only impairs its effectiveness.”

4. Can I work out while fasting?
Yes, fasted workouts are fine. Some people recommend taking branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) before a fasted workout.
DASH DIET: According to DashDiet.org, The DASH diet plan was developed to lower blood pressure without medication in research sponsored by the US National Institutes of Health. The first DASH diet research showed that it could lower blood pressure as well as the first line blood pressure medications, even with a sodium intake of 3300 mg/day. Since then, numerous studies have shown that the DASH diet reduces the risk of many diseases, including some kinds of cancer, stroke, heart disease, heart failure, kidney stones, and diabetes. The heart of the DASH diet is an eating plan rich in fruits and vegetables, low-fat and nonfat dairy, along with nuts, beans, and seeds.
MEDITERRANEAN DIET: According to the Mayo Clinic, the Mediterranean diet emphasizes: Eating primarily plant-based foods, such as fruits and vegetables, whole grains, legumes and nuts; Replacing butter with olive oil and canola oil; Using herbs and spices instead of salt to flavor foods; Limiting red meat to no more than a few times a month; Eating fish and poultry at least twice a week; Enjoying meals with family and friends; Drinking red wine in moderation; and Getting plenty of exercise. Research has shown that the traditional Mediterranean diet reduces the risk of heart disease.
Now, in this series, as we focus on overcoming the sin of gluttony, and managing our bodies as God intended, we must not lose sight of the most important part of our existence — our spiritual life. Even those of you who are fit, who eat right, and who exercise regularly must still address the condition of your soul. You may keep your body in perfect condition till the day you die, but you will still die — we all will, and the only thing that will matter is the condition of your soul. Is your soul in shape? Is your soul in right standing with God?
The only way to make sure of that is to trust Jesus Christ as your Savior from sin and the consequences of sin. He alone can save your soul, put you in right standing with God, and ensure that you do not perish in Hell. Now, if you do not know Jesus Christ as your Savior, here is how you can trust Him today.
First, accept the fact that you are a sinner, and that you have broken God’s law. The Bible says in Romans 3:23: “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”
Second, accept the fact that there is a penalty for sin. The Bible states in Romans 6:23: “For the wages of sin is death…”
Third, accept the fact that you are on the road to hell. Jesus Christ said in Matthew 10:28: “And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” Also, the Bible states in Revelation 21:8: “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”
Now that is bad news, but here’s the good news. Jesus Christ said in John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will.
Romans 10:9 & 13 says, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved… For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
