Dr. Deforest Soaries, author of Say Yes to No Debt: 12 Steps to Financial Freedom, speaks to churches and organizations around the country about financial freedom. His dfree® movement was profiled in the groundbreaking CNN docu-series “Black In America”, and has helped thousands of people restructure their financial lives. He has issued a call to the African American community to pay down a billion dollars in personal debt by the year 2020. He has challenged predatory lending practices in urban communities.
Dr. Soaries is a freedom fighter and this Friday he is doing a day-long live-stream on multiple platforms to engage with the community, ask and answer tough questions about money, and begin the conversation around rethinking our approach to money and spending so that we can improve our lives and the lives of the people we love.
“We are doing worse now than we were in the year 2,000” says Dr. Soaries. “I want to help focus our efforts, our actions and behaviors on reversing this trend of decline and regression in our community so that by 2020 we are BETTER than we are right now.”
This Friday on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and www.mydfree.org, Dr. Soaries will address a variety of financial topics specific to the African American community, including money and the church and the effect of racism on spending habits. He will also provide practical tips and insights for saving, investing and growing your money. Additionally, Dr. Soaries will answer questions about his Billion Dollar Challenge, which has already helped participants collectively pay down more than $12 million in personal debt.
“The average African American family has $8,000 in credit card debt. I want to get 125,000 people to pay off at least that much,” says Soaries. “If those same 125,000 people take what they were spending on credit card payments and purchase life insurance, the African American community will amass $12.5 billion in life insurance policies. This will help the next generation accumulate wealth. This will help us close the wealth gap. This will annihilate the research indicators that the African American community is on a path toward having ‘zero wealth’ by 2053.
“Anyone who believes that having less debt is better than having more debt, and who wants to structure life around debt free living, should participate in the Billion Dollar Challenge,” adds Soaries.
Join the conversation beginning at 10 a.m. this Friday, November 10, @mydfree (FB, Twitter, YouTube) and at www.mydfree.org.
