Marjorie Jones, the mother of Bishop Noel Jones and singer Grace Jones, has died. She was 90 years old.
She passed away on Monday after a “massive stroke” last month which resulted in her being hospitalized at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles, California.
Marjorie had led the Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ in Syracuse, New York, for ten years. She died with family members by her side. A source told the New York Daily News, “Grace [Jones] joined the rest of the family the moment she heard Marjorie had a severe stroke just a few weeks ago. She was hopeful that her mum was going to pull through after she came out of a coma. Sadly, Marjorie couldn’t make a full recovery.”
Marjorie’s husband Robert, who founded the church, died in 2008. They had been married for nearly 60 years. They are survived by eight children as well as twelve grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Their son, Noel Jones, pastors the City of Refuge Church in Los Angeles, California.
Several members of the Syracuse church left messages of condolence on social media.
“Our beloved Mother Marjorie Jones got her wings and I along with The Apostolic Church family are going to miss her greatly!” one parishioner wrote on Facebook.
“God loved Marjorie Jones to heaven to be with Him. Praise the Lord, she will be truly miss[ed] but never forgotten. Much love and prayers to the Jones family and Apostolic Church,” another user said.
