Lakers executive and Basketball Hall of Famer Magic Johnson has been subpoenaed as a witness in a civil lawsuit accusing Warriors star Draymond Green of assault, the Detroit Free Press reported, citing court documents.
Jermaine Edmondson accuses Green of assaulting him in 2016 outside a Michigan restaurant, and Edmondson’s attorneys want to question Johnson about a tweet he posted afterward in which he wrote that he had spoken with Green and “he was very apologetic to the Warriors organization, fans and everyone involved.”
The subpoena requires Johnson to give a deposition Oct. 4 at the Lakers practice facility.
“This is a case in which there are few eyewitnesses other than the parties themselves,” attorney Lisa Bloom wrote in an email to the Free Press. “This means that it is especially important to find out what Mr. Green told others about what happened.”
