First, under the Sign category of SIGNS IN THE HEAVENS — According to The Associated Press, on Monday, the stars came out in the middle of the day, zoo animals ran in agitated circles, birds fell silent, and a chilly darkness settled on the land as the U.S. witnessed its first full-blown, coast-to-coast solar eclipse since World War I. Millions of Americans gazed in wonder at the cosmic spectacle, which had a path of totality that raced 2,600 miles across the continent from Oregon to South Carolina. The last coast-to-coast total eclipse in the U.S. was in 1918, when Woodrow Wilson was president.
Second, today, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMORS OF WARS — According to The Associated Press, declaring that the U.S. will win “in the end,” President Donald Trump has vowed to keep American troops fighting in Afghanistan despite his earlier inclination to withdraw. But he insisted the U.S. would not offer “a blank check” after 16 years of war. In a prime-time address, Trump said the U.S. would shift away from a “time-based” approach, instead linking its activities to results and to cooperation from the beleaguered Afghan government, Pakistan, and others. U.S. officials said they expected the president to go along with a Pentagon recommendation to send nearly 4,000 new troops, boosting the total of 8,400 in Afghanistan now.
Third, today, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMORS OF WARS — According to Sky News, North Korea’s latest propaganda posters show the country bombing the United States as their ‘answer’ to the latest UN sanctions against the country. The illustrations show North Korean warheads destroying the Capitol Building in Washington DC, and dozens of bombs falling over a burning map of the U.S. The country says it has developed intercontinental missiles capable of targeting any place in the United States. Weapons experts say the isolated state is planning to carry out at least one more nuclear test, its sixth, to perfect its capabilities.
Fourth, today, under the Sign category of EARTHQUAKES IN DIVERS PLACES — According to News Corp, a 4.0 magnitude earthquake struck the Italian island of Ischia during the height of tourist season on Monday. The main quake was followed by 14 aftershocks. Two people died, and dozens were injured. Several buildings in the area collapsed and suffered severe damage.
Fifth, today, under the Sign category of DISTRESS AMONG NATIONS — According to Newsweek, the head of U.S. forces in the Pacific warned adversaries on Tuesday not to make any moves against U.S. forces after this year’s fourth serious naval accident in Asia raised concerns about the military’s preparedness in the region. Speaking a day after the Navy destroyer USS John S. McCain collided with a Liberian oil tanker, injuring five U.S. sailors and resulting in the disappearance of 10 more, U.S. Pacific Command chief Navy Admiral Harry Harris assured reporters that the military was well-equipped to tackle foreign threats. The strategic region has been host to tensions between the U.S. and nuclear-armed North Korea, as well as China, which has increasingly bolstered its own military presence to back disputed maritime claims. Harris said, “Perception is in the eyes of the beholder, and I will hope that no one will test the U.S. on the perception that we’ve had a problem with USS John McCain and three other assets — that would be a very foolhardy thing to do. The U.S. Navy is large, we have a lot of capacity, and we will bring that capacity forward if we need to.”

The prophetic passage of Scripture that we are looking at today is Jeremiah 31:10-14 which reads: “Hear the word of the Lord, O ye nations, and declare it in the isles afar off, and say, He that scattered Israel will gather him, and keep him, as a shepherd doth his flock. For the Lord hath redeemed Jacob, and ransomed him from the hand of him that was stronger than he. Therefore they shall come and sing in the height of Zion, and shall flow together to the goodness of the Lord, for wheat, and for wine, and for oil, and for the young of the flock and of the herd: and their soul shall be as a watered garden; and they shall not sorrow any more at all.”
Allow me to share with you some commentary on this passage from the Popular Bible Prophecy Commentary, edited by Tim LaHaye and Ed Hindson.
The second main point of this passage is the rejoicing of the remnant, which is described in verses 10-14. In verse 10, God gives a declaration, and the Gentile nations are called to respond to it. The point should not be missed: The very God who scattered the Jews intends to regather them. In the same way that the scattering has been literally fulfilled, so will the regathering be literally fulfilled. Verse 11 gives the reason for God’s declaration: God will redeem Israel from the hand of the Antichrist. Verse 12 describes Israel’s joy over God’s provision, for “they [will] come and shout for joy in the height of Zion, and they will be radiant over the bounty of the LORD,” and God intends to provide “grain, new wine, oil,”
flocks, and herds. The result is that the people’s “life will be like a watered garden, and they will never languish again.” In verse 13 there is more rejoicing. The section ends with a promise of satisfaction: “I will fill the soul of the priests with abundance, and My people will be satisfied with my goodness.”
If the Lord tarries His Coming and we live, we will continue looking at the prophetic passages of the Bible in our next broadcast / podcast.
Our Second Coming quote for today is from C.S. Lewis. He said, “The second coming of Christ shall be utterly unlike the first. He came the first time to suffer – to bear our sins, to be reckoned a curse, to be despised, rejected, unjustly condemned, and slain. He shall come the second time to reign – to put down every enemy beneath His feet, to take the kingdom of this world for His inheritance, to rule them with righteousness, to judge all men and to live forevermore. How vast the difference! How mighty the contrast!”
If you are not ready for the return of Jesus Christ, may I encourage you to get ready today by receiving Him as your Savior. Here is how.
First, accept the fact that you are a sinner, and that you have broken God’s law. The Bible says in Romans 3:23: “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”
Second, accept the fact that there is a penalty for sin. The Bible states in Romans 6:23: “For the wages of sin is death…”
Third, accept the fact that you are on the road to hell. Jesus Christ said in Matthew 10:28: “And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” Also, the Bible states in Revelation 21:8: “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”
Now that is bad news, but here is the good news. Jesus Christ said in John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will. Romans 10:13 says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
Keep looking up for your redemption draweth nigh. Let us join in the prayer of John the Revelator — “Even so, come, Lord Jesus.” God bless you.
