He is the associate Pastor at Joel Osteen’s world-famous Lakewood Church in Houston, Texas.
And now, his life will be featured on OWNs “The Book of John Gray,” [which premiered] April 15.
Pastor John Gray and his wife, Aventer Gray, sat down with EUR correspondent Fahnia Thomas to talk about media maven Oprah, pastoral leadership, and the meaning of their show.
EUR: What advice did Ms. Winfrey give you before embarking on this TV journey?
Pastor John Gray: She asked us, ‘what is your intention with the show?’ And I was like, ‘I don’t know…we want to do good….We want to show a different picture of faith and humanity, and we want it to be engaging, funny, joyful and to leave viewers with a seed of hope. We haven’t really had a chance to get nuggets of wisdom from her because the show hasn’t aired. But our dialogue with her, has been more about making sure our hearts were seen on camera because people connect to hearts.
Aventer Gray: When people hear ‘reality show,’ they get a little nervous. Especially when it intersects with pastoral leadership and faith, there is always a little slippery slope. We are very secure and confident in who we are and the portrayal of what the Lord has given us, in this moment.
