Our Ordained Chaplains Scripture Verse for today is Luke 10:34 which reads, “And [the Samaritan] went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.”
Our Ordained Chaplains quote for today is from JC Ryle. He said, “Humility and love are precisely the graces which the men of the world can understand, if they do not comprehend doctrines. They are the graces about which there is no mystery, and they are within reach of all classes. The poorest Christian can every day find occasion for practicing love and humility.”
In this podcast, we will continue discussing the book “Out of the Depths” by Anton T. Boisen. We continue today with “The Call to the MInistry: Borders of the Promised Land” (Part 8):
I went then into an abnormal condition which I can recall only hazily. I saw myself, as it were, in the thick of a great fight. I had been entrusted with a responsibility on which everything depended but I had fallen and could not rise. Then I saw her, and it seemed that she had appeared and reappeared through the centuries. And always across her path stood a poor wretch whose claim of need could not be denied, one who for her was a heavy cross. She was therefore always lonely and sad. Then it came to me that even though I had fallen, even though I was a broken vessel, I might give her to someone else. And another man, one of my fellow foresters, seemed pointed out. I went to him and stumblingly asked him to accept this trust; and he seemed to understand. After that I was very happy. It seemed that the fight was won. Then came terrible darkness. I was horrified at the breach of conventionality of which I had been guilty. I must surely be insane. And yet this prompting had seemed to carry authority just like that of the Easter experience in 1898 and that of the call to the ministry in 1905.
