First, under the Sign category of THE TURMOIL IN ISRAEL & THE MIDDLE EAST — According to the Associated Press, a joint U.S.-Israeli missile interceptor meant to counter the type of medium-range missiles possessed by Iranian-backed Hezbollah militants became operational on Sunday, completing Israel’s multi-layer defense system amid tensions on its frontiers with Syria and Gaza. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said at the unveiling ceremony for the David’s Sling system that defending the home front is of the “utmost importance.” He went on to warn “whoever tries to strike us will be hit, those that threaten our existence put themselves in existential danger.” David Sling’s marks the completion of Israel’s multi-tier system that includes the Arrow, designed to intercept long-range ballistic missiles in the stratosphere with an eye on Iran, and Iron Dome, which defends against short-range rockets from the Gaza Strip.

Second, today, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMORS OF WARS — According to Breitbart, a top American commander has warned lawmakers that the U.S. needs to consider military action to disrupt Iran’s malicious activities in the Middle East, North Africa, and South Asia, which have intensified since the Islamic Republic signed a nuclear deal with world powers in 2015. Gen. Joseph Votel, the head of U.S. Central Command testified before the House Armed Services Committee about the security challenges facing his area of responsibility. Votel said, “Iran poses the most significant threat to the Central Region and to our national interests and the interests of our partners and allies. We have not seen any improvement in Iran’s behavior since the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), addressing Iran’s nuclear program, was finalized in July 2015. I think we need to look at opportunities where we can disrupt their activities through military means or other means.”

Third, today, under the Sign category of DISTRESS AMONG NATIONS — According to CNBC, U.S. satellites may be vulnerable to attacks from China and Russia that could make future war’s a lot riskier. Michael Krepon, a space security expert and co-founder of the Stimson Center think tank in Washington, D.C., said, “Every major space-faring nation that can track a satellite and launch into outer space has the means to mess up a satellite.” Last week, Navy Vice Admiral Charles Richard, deputy commander of U.S. Strategic Command, warned in a speech at a CSIS space security conference about offensive space capabilities and weapons being developed by China and Russia. He said, “While we’re not at war in space, I don’t think we can say we are exactly at peace either. With rapidly growing threats to our space systems, as well as the threat of a degraded space environment, we must prepare for a conflict that extends into space.”

Fourth, today, under the Sign category of DISTRESS AMONG NATIONS — According to The Hill, Russian President Vladimir Putin’s top spokesman said on Friday that the relationship between the U.S. and Russia may be more antagonistic now than it was during the decades-long Cold War. Asked by ABC host George Stephanopoulos if the U.S. and Russia were in a “new Cold War,” Dmitry Peskov said the current situation may be worse, blaming the U.S. for disintegrating cooperation between the two countries. Putin has denied that Russia sought to interfere in the U.S. presidential election. But intelligence officials have warned that the Kremlin is likely to try to meddle in other upcoming elections across Western Europe.

Fifth, today, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMORS OF WARS — According to ABC News, Former Defense Secretary Ash Carter says a U.S. preemptive strike against North Korea’s nuclear-weapons program could prompt the country’s leader, Kim Jong Un, to try to invade South Korea. Carter, who served as defense secretary in the Obama administration, told ABC News that if the U.S. preemptively strikes North Korea, “It’s quite possible that they would, as a consequence of that launch, attempt an invasion of South Korea.” He said, “I’m confident of the outcome of that war, which would be the defeat of North Korea, but this is a war with an intensity of violence associated with it that we haven’t seen since the last Korean War.” Noting that the South Korean capital of Seoul, with about 25 million area residents, is on the border between the two countries, the former defense secretary said, “Even though the outcome is certain, it is a very destructive war.”

The prophetic passage of Scripture that we are looking at today is Jeremiah 30:4-7 which reads: “And these are the words that the Lord spake concerning Israel and concerning Judah. For thus saith the Lord; We have heard a voice of trembling, of fear, and not of peace. Ask ye now, and see whether a man doth travail with child? wherefore do I see every man with his hands on his loins, as a woman in travail, and all faces are turned into paleness? Alas! for that day is great, so that none is like it: it is even the time of Jacob’s trouble, but he shall be saved out of it.”

Allow me to share with you some commentary on this passage from the Popular Bible Prophecy Commentary, edited by Tim LaHaye and Ed Hindson.

Verses 8-11 provide the details of just how Israel’s deliverance will be accomplished. God states He is going to break the oppressor’s yoke. “His yoke” refers to the Antichrist in that end-time period. His yoke over the Jews will be broken, and Israel will be freed. This is followed by a promise: “Foreigners will no more enslave them.” This prophecy is not referring to the return from the Babylonian captivity, for since that time, strangers have in fact made the Jews their bondmen (servants).

After the Tribulation will come the final restoration, which is when this promise will be fulfilled. Though the Jews will not be enslaved, they will serve someone: “they shall serve [first] the LORD their God, and [second] David their king.” Some interpret “David their king” as being a reference to the Messiah. But there is no reason to avoid the literal interpretation of Scripture here. This should be taken as the literal David, “whom I will raise up for them.” Indeed, King David will someday be resurrected, and he will be a co-regent with Jesus over Israel. This is also taught in Ezekiel 34 and 37, and Hosea 3.

Israel is not to fear nor be dismayed for two reasons: The first is that Israel is going to be regathered: “I will save you from afar and your offspring from the land of their captivity.” The Jews will return; they will rest quietly and be “at ease, and no one will make [them] afraid.” The second reason is that Israel is going to survive. The promise here is very graphic: God intends to eventually “destroy completely all the nations” to which God has scattered the Jewish people. But He will never make a full end of the Jewish people. He will discipline them, He “will correct [them] in justice,” and He will not “let [them] go altogether unpunished.” So the Jewish people are guaranteed to survive, as they already have throughout the centuries. Although the Tribulation will be severe for the Jews, Israel, as a nation and a people, will survive it.

If the Lord tarries His coming and we live, we will continue looking at the prophetic passages of the Bible in our next broadcast / podcast.

Our second coming quote for today is from Alan Redpath. He said, “The immense step from the Babe at Bethlehem to the living, reigning triumphant Lord Jesus, returning to earth for His own people – that is the glorious truth proclaimed throughout Scripture. May we always be alert for the final trumpet that will announce His return, when we shall always be with Him.”

If you are not ready for the return of Jesus Christ, may I encourage you to get ready today by receiving Him as your Savior. Here is how.

First, accept the fact that you are a sinner, and that you have broken God’s law. The Bible says in Romans 3:23: “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”

Second, accept the fact that there is a penalty for sin. The Bible states in Romans 6:23: “For the wages of sin is death…”

Third, accept the fact that you are on the road to hell. Jesus Christ said in Matthew 10:28: “And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” Also, the Bible states in Revelation 21:8: “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”

Now that is bad news, but here is the good news. Jesus Christ said in John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will. Romans 10:13 says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Keep looking up for your redemption draweth nigh. Let us join in the prayer of John the Revelator — “Even so, come, Lord Jesus.” God bless you.
